Primary Election Overview: 68th House District

Through the primary election on August 2 on the MLC Blog we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 68^th House District includes portions of Genesee and Oakland Counties.

Commentary

This district in southeast Michigan is nearly a 50/50 split, with the Republican base being 50.2%. This will make both the primary and general election races critical. Representative David Martin is running in the Republican primary for a second term in office. However, due to redistricting, very little of his previous district is in the newly drawn 68^thdistrict. In a unique twist, a husband and wife are both running for this seat; Raymond Freiberger in the Democratic primary and Lynn Freiberger in the Republican primary.

Democratic Candidates:

- Amie Carter
- Raymond Freiberger – Army Veteran, accountant, worked in various roles at the IRS.
- Cheri Hardmon – Journalist.

Republican Candidates:

- Lynne Freiberger – Army Veteran, small business owner.
- Representative David Martin – State Representative, Air Force Veteran, former security director at the Pontiac Silverdome.
- Vern Miller – Marine Veteran, teacher, and former coach.
- Kristen Swanson – Business owner.
