Primary Election Overview: 35th Michigan Senate District

Through the primary election on August 2 on the MLC Blog we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 35^th Michigan Senate District includes portions of Bay, Midland, and Saginaw Counties. The district has a 53% Republican base.

Commentary

The Republican primary has four candidates, two of whom have campaign experience. Current Representative Glenn and former Representative Kelly are both campaigning hard to represent this newly drawn Senate district next year. The winner will face Kristen McDonald Rivet, a local elected official with campaign experience.

Democratic Candidate:

Republican Candidates:

- Martin Blank – Doctor, Army veteran.
- Representative Annette Glenn – State representative, former legislative and campaign staffer.
- Tim Kelly – Former state representative, education policy advisor to Governor Engler, worked for the Indiana Governor.
- Christian Velasquez – Owns a consulting business, worked for Dow Corning.
