Primary Election Overview: 29th House District

Through the primary election on August 2 on the MLC Blog we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 29^th House District is located in southeast Michigan, containing portions of Monroe and Wayne Counties. The district includes part of Monroe, Romulus, and Taylor, along with Ash and Huron Charter Townships, and a portion of Frenchtown Township.

Commentary

This district is fairly split, with the Democratic party have a slight edge of a 52.1% base to the Republicans’ 47.9% base. Representative Alex Garza will be running for his third term in office this fall against the winner of the four-way Republican primary race.

Democratic Candidate:

- Representative Alex Garza – State Representative, former Taylor City Council member, former legislative staffer.

Republican Candidate:

- James DeSana – Worked in the fastener manufacturing industry, owns and operates a family farm.
