Governor Creates Marihuana Regulatory Agency

Regulation of marihuana would be contained within a new agency, combining previous authorities, functions, and duties. Housed within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order creating the new Marihuana Regulatory Agency. The order transfers authorities from the Marihuana Licensing Board, the Bureau of Marihuana Regulation, and the Marihuana Advisory Panel to the new agency and abolishes the board, bureau, and panel.

An executive director will head up the new agency, appointed by the governor, and subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. The agency is required to hold at least four public meetings per year to hear complaints while providing information on the administration of the authorities, powers, duties, functions, and responsibilities of the agency.
