This week, Governor Rick Snyder announced “The Michigan Invasive Carp Challenge.” Using a $1 million appropriation authorized by the Governor and the Michigan Legislature, the challenge seeks to find the best solutions to tackle the looming crisis posed by invasive species in the Great Lakes. The goal is to find the most cost effective manner to prevent further movement of silver and bighead carp. The State is accepting all ideas, including concepts to projects in the development or testing phase.
According to the State, the problem could affect the fishing industry, water recreation and tourism, and the health of the Great Lakes.
