Department Director Dismissed

Aug 30, 2019

This week, the Michigan Civil Rights Commission voted to dismiss Agustin Arbulu as director of the Department of Civil Rights. The removal comes after the former director was accused of making inappropriate comments. Since the allegations last month, legislative leaders and Governor Gretchen Whitmer called for him to either resign or be removed by the commission.

The Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the operational arm of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, is charged with investigating and resolving discrimination complaints and working to prevent discrimination through educational programs that promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws.
