$4.3 Billion Supplemental Passed

Jun 18, 2021

A bill appropriating over $4 billion in federal funding was passed by the Senate this week. The majority of the available funds were part of federal American Rescue Plan dollars, sent to states to use with some discretion, in response to the ongoing pandemic and the impact on students.

Funding within the plan includes:

    • $3.3 billion for school districts to be distributed through the Title 1 formula. School districts must use at least 20% of the funds to address learning loss through the implementation of evidence-based interventions.
    • $840 million also distributed through the Title 1 formula to support disadvantaged students.
    • $93 million to provide services or assistance to nonpublic schools that enroll a significant percentage of low-income students and are most impacted by COVID-19.
    • $87 million in federal Governor’s Emergency Education Relief grants for nonpublic schools.

The bill has been sent back to the House for their consideration of changes to the House-passed version of bill.
