Women’s History Month

Mar 28, 2018

March is recognized as Women’s International History Month. During the month, you are sure to see women and men wearing purple to acknowledge the importance and significance of women’s contributions throughout history and today. You will also see political and grassroot groups organizing events to celebrate women who are continuing to be trailblazers.

Importantly, this is also a time for reflection by men. As a father of three beautiful daughters, I firmly believe it is my responsibility to affirm- and reaffirm-the importance of developing a strong sense of self. A father’s first instinct is to protect his daughters. While protection is important, equipping our young women with the tools to protect themselves is essential.

I am raising my daughters to not only appreciate who they are as women, but to see themselves as women that have the confidence to change the world. I want my daughters to be women who know that with hard work, their place is at the head of table; and women who recognize obstacles and inequities and have the courage to do something about it. I am raising leaders.

I have been blessed to be surrounded by strong women my entire life and understand the standard for which my daughters must live up to in order to be leaders.  I also understand my place is not on the sidelines in this cause, but my most significant contribution to this cause will be to raise three dynamic women who are equipped and ready to lead the next generation.
