A team greater than the sum of the people who serve our clients.

Ann, Brendan, Tony, Liz, Julie, Matt, Nicole, Jen, Monica, and Amber are the who in MLC. I’ve had the honor of hiring all, aside from Ann, whose legendary service to clients predates my joining the firm twenty years ago.

In conversations I half-kiddingly say, “I’m just smart enough to hire people smarter than me”.  Translated, it means each brought a great skill set and experiences, that neither I nor others at the firm possessed. Diverse background and thinking helps drive the team’s ability to assess and analyze situations and develop solutions for our clients. Through multiple lenses, a better picture comes into focus.

Yet all have pillars in common, including the understanding that our actions and words are a reflection on our clients, personal ethics, work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to understand our clients’ businesses and explain sometimes complex policy objectives in advocacy terms to policy makers. And we hate losing. Hiring people to be lobbyists, who all have come from leadership positions elsewhere, allows us to provide this type of service model.

Sense of self. To be successful consultant to clients and in turn, advocates for their needs, requires a team of people that knows themselves.  For the administrative and project staff, the same holds true. While each has a sense of self, most important, they share the same sense of purpose – serving our clients. If it wasn’t for them and our tremendous growth over the last 20 years, most of the team wouldn’t have had an opportunity to be hired.

To sum up my answer on ‘who is MLC’ I believe it is everyone’s ability to apply their personal strengths, woven into the fabric of Team MLC, to deliver a cohesive and high level of service to our clients we are so fortunate to represent.
