Unemployment Rate Holds Steady

Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate last month remained unchanged for the third consecutive month at 4.3%. Statewide employment increased by 7,000, while unemployment was unchanged. The Detroit-Warren-Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area’s rate decreased by two-tenths of a percentage point over the month to 4.4%.

Highlights within the monthly jobs report from the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget include:

- Employment in the state rose by 3.7% over the year.
- Michigan’s second quarter average unemployment rate was 4.3%, which was 0.4% below the 2022 first quarter average rate.
- The most pronounced over-the-month job gains occurred in the professional and business services sector and the manufacturing sector.
- Statewide nonfarm payroll jobs in June were 2.8% below the pre-pandemic level.
