Unemployment Rate Declines

Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in November declined by two-tenths of a percentage point to 5.9%. Total employment during the month advanced by 11,000, and unemployment receded by 11,000. Specifics within the monthly report by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, shows that despite gains, the pandemic continues to impact job rates in Michigan, including:

- The number of employed remained significantly below pre-pandemic levels
- Despite declining over the past year, the number of unemployed remained 96,000, which is above the February 2020 levels
- The jobless rate of 5.9% was 2.2% above the pre-pandemic February 2020 rate
