Unemployment Insurance Agency Leadership Changes

On Thursday, it was announced that Sharon Moffett-Massey was reassigned from her role as director of the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA). She will however, remain part of the leadership team. The decision was announced by Wanda Stokes, director of the Talent Investment Agency (TIA), which houses the UIA. Bruce Noll will serve as acting assistant director of the UIA. Currently, Mr. Noll serves as legislation liaison for TIA. The agency plans to conduct a nationwide search for a new director.

The leadership changes came as part of a full review of the UIA, which is being undertaken by Ms. Stokes. Recently, the Michigan Office of the Auditor General found concerns with the department’s automated system used to find fraud amongst those receiving unemployment benefits.
