The Race for Attorney General

Next month, Michigan voters will head to the polls to vote on a number of key state races. Included on that list is Michigan Attorney General, the state’s top lawyer and law enforcement official. Under state law, the Attorney General serves a four-year term and is eligible to serve two terms. Democratic candidate Dana Nessel is running for her second term and given campaign fundraising amounts and the latest polling data, looks to be well positioned. Her Republican candidate, Matthew DePerno, is new to campaigning and has received the support of former President Donald Trump.

The full candidate slate is as follows:

- Democratic candidate, Attorney General Dana Nessel
  - Former assistant Wayne County Prosecutor and private practice attorney
  - Wayne State University Law School graduate
- Republican candidate, Matthew DePerno
  - Private practice attorney
  - University of Detroit Mercy School of Law graduate
- Libertarian candidate, Joseph McHugh Jr.
- US Taxpayers candidate Gerald Van Sickle
