Testing Requirements in Youth Sports Updated, Outdoor Stadium Capacity Expands

Mar 19, 2021

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) updated their Gatherings and Mask epidemic order, allowing up to 20% capacity in outdoor stadiums and arenas that establish infection control plans. The changes take effect March 22 and remain in effect through April 19.

Specifically, outdoor stadiums and arenas can increase capacity if the site:

    • Establishes an infection control plan that complies with the protocols outlined by DHHS.
    • Posts the mitigation plan publicly.
    • Sends infection control plans to the local health department and DHHS at least seven days before scheduled events.
    • Administers a testing program for players as outlined by DHHS.

The order also increases testing requirements for youth ages 13-19, requiring antigen tests before games and practices beginning April 2. Over the past few weeks, youth sports have been behind a large portion of case outbreaks. To read the full updated order, please click here.

Additionally, in accordance with CDC guidelines, fully vaccinated individuals may participate in residential gatherings with other fully vaccinated individuals without wearing a mask.
