Statewide Census Director Named

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Kerry Ebersole Singh will serve as the Michigan Statewide Census Director for the upcoming 2020 census. Ensuring an accurate count is critical to Michigan, since federal funding and our representation in congress is tied to the population of the state. Governor Whitmer signed an executive order in June creating the Complete Count Committee, which is focused on ensuring the census count is complete and accurate.

Ms. Ebersole Singh is the CEO of a public relation firm. Previously she worked at the Energy Foundation States and Regions program, served as director of Get Out the Vote for Obama for America, and regional director for the Service Employees International Union. Additionally, she worked for the Michigan House Democratic Caucus as a constituent relations specialist and chief of staff for a former state representative. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy from Michigan State University. “The 2020 Census has a huge impact on the state for the next decade and Kerry’s appointment will definitely professionalize the effort for Michigan,” explained MLC’s Brendan Ringlever.
