Special Primary Elections Being Held

Feb 25, 2022

The House will be one step closer to having their full 110 members seated following special primary elections being held on Tuesday, March 1. Two seats were left open when the former representatives were elected to the Michigan Senate, one after the former representative won a local election, and the fourth was left open following the passing of former Representative Andrea Schroeder.

    • 15th House District, Wayne County – This district has a 61% Democratic base, as such it’s expected the winner of the Democratic primary will win in the general election this May.
      • Democratic candidates – Alabas Farhat, Jeffrey Pepper
      • Republican candidate – Ginger Shearer
    • 36th House District, Macomb County – The district has a 63% Republican base, and the winner of the Republican primary is likely to win the general election.
      • Democratic candidate – James Diez
      • Republican candidates – Grant Golasa, Sylvia Grot, Terence Mekoski, William Thompson
    • 43rd House District, Oakland County – The district has a 68% Republican base; thus, the winner of the Republican primary is all but assured to win the special general election.
      • Democratic candidate – Kent Douglas
      • Republican candidates – Anthony Bartolotta, Mike Harris, Heidi Warrington, Linda Ybarra Bozzone
    • 74th House District, Kent County – This is another strong Republican seat and it’s expected they will continue to hold this seat after the special general election, making the Republican primary race the one to watch.
      • Democratic candidate – Carol Glanville
      • Republican candidates – Brian Blair, Steven Gilbert, Justin Noordhoek, Robert Regan

The primary winners will run in the special general election on Tuesday, May 3. Following Tuesday’s election, we will post a full list of winners in each of the races on the MLC blog.
