Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the date of special elections to fill the vacancies in two Senate Districts. A special primary election will be held on August 3, 2021 and the special general election will be held on November 2, 2021. Candidates have until April 20, 2021 to file to run for the seats in the primary race.
The 8th Senate District is located in Macomb County. The seat was left vacant when former Senator Pete Lucido (R) resigned the seat after being elected Macomb County Prosecutor in the November 2020 general election.
The 28th Senate District is located in Kent County. Former Senator Pete MacGregor (R) was elected Kent County Treasurer during the November 2020 general election and resigned from his Senate seat.
