Special Election Being Held for Open Macomb County Senate Seat

Residents in the 8^th Senate District will soon have representation in the Michigan Senate after a special general election is held this coming Tuesday. The district is located in Macomb County and has been open since former Senator Pete Lucido resigned following his election as Macomb County Prosecutor. The district is considered safe for Republicans; thus, Representative Wozniak is likely to win the seat. The winner will serve the remainder of the term, ending on January 1, 2023.

The candidates are:

- Democratic candidate – Martin Genter
  - Works for the United Nations Foundation, former congressional staffer.
- Republican candidate – Representative Doug Wozniak
  - State representative, attorney.
  - Committees – Families, Children, and Seniors, Communications and Technology, Oversight, and Judiciary Committees.
