On Monday, Governor Rick Snyder announced the dates for the special election in the 2nd Senate District. The district is located in Wayne County and includes Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Point Park, Grosse Pointe Woods, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Highland Park, the Village of Grosse Pointe Shores, and a portion of the City of Detroit. The seat was left vacant following the resignation of former Senator Bert Johnson.
A special primary election will be held on August 7 and the special general election will be held on November 6. The special elections are to fill the remainder of the term, ending December 31, 2018. “Governor Snyder scheduled the dates for the special elections to coincide with the primary and general elections in order to save the locals the cost of an additional election day. Additionally, there will be special primary and special general elections on the same days for the 13th Congressional District and the 68th Michigan House District,” stated Matt Sowash of MLC.
