Special Committee on Flint Holds Final Hearing

May 13, 2016

This week, the Joint Flint Water Public Health Emergency Select Committee held its final hearing.  After six hearings and hours of testimony, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Tony Stamas (R-Midland), announced the committee would not hear any additional testimony.  However, the committee would remain through the end of session, but at this time he didn’t expect to schedule any further hearings.  Additionally, members of the committee will continue to meet before issuing their recommendations at a later date.

During the six hearings the committee heard testimony from the Department of Environmental Quality, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Genesee County Health Department, the Office of the Auditor General, and countless Flint residents.  Noticeably absent from those who provided testimony before the committee was the former Flint Emergency Manager, the former Director of the Department of Environmental Quality, and Governor Rick Snyder.  However, Senator Stamas did place into the official record the transcripts of the testimony provided to the United States Oversight and Governmental Reform Committee, including the testimony provided by the Governor.
