Six New Pure Michigan Trails and Trail Towns Recognized

Three trails and three communities were recognized as Pure Michigan Trails and Pure Michigan Trail Towns by the Department of Natural Resources during the Governor’s Conference on Tourism this week.

Pure Michigan Trails are routes that provide access to national, state, or regional scenic resources. They may be single trails or a combination of trails, they must be more than one mile in length, they must be open to the public, and must be substantially complete. The newly designated trails are:

- Canada Lakes Pathway in Luce County
- Haywire Grade in Schoolcraft and Alger Counties
- Kal-Haven Trail in Van Buren and Kalamazoo Counties

Pure Michigan Trail Towns are towns that have been identified as vibrant places where trail-based tourism meets the needs of both trail users and town residents. The newly designated trail towns are:

- Cheboygan in Cheboygan County
- Orion Township in Oakland County
- Reed City in Osceola County
