Legislation introduced by Senator Aric Nesbitt (R-Lawton) was passed by the Senate this week, which seeks to improve access to reliable broadband internet. The need for access to broadband become even more clear during the pandemic when much of the state work either working from home or participating in virtual learning. The measure would increase incentives and promote investment in broadband equipment, which should bring access to underserved and unserved areas. The legislation aims to prompt investors to upgrade their equipment and expand services to areas without access to high-speed internet. The bill has been referred to the House Communications and Technology Committee for consideration.
