Senate Republicans Announce COVID Response Plan

This week, members of the Senate Republican caucus announced a plan providing $2 billion in funding to aid the state’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed funding includes:

- $110 million for vaccine distribution
- $170 million to increase pay for direct care workers
- $220 million in emergency rental assistance
- $150 million to keep the Unemployment Trust Fund solvent
- $450 per pupil to help with learning loss
- $75 million for testing of students, teachers, and staff

This is the latest plan put forth to appropriate Federal funds, added with some state funding, to help the state’s response and vaccination efforts. Last week the House passed a Republican plan appropriating funds. Additionally, the House Democratic Caucus have put forth a plan and Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced her plan last month.
