Senate Passes COVID-19 Supplemental Funding

On Thursday, the Senate passed nearly $2 billion in supplemental funding to aid in the state’s response to the ongoing pandemic. Appropriations include:

    • $110 million for vaccine distribution
    • $150 million to increase pay for direct care workers
    • $185 million for testing
    • $283 million in emergency rental assistance

Additionally, the legislation appropriates funding to help schools’ respond to the pandemic, including:

    • A minimum of $450 per pupil to help with learning loss associated with school closures
    • $179 million to support summer school
    • $5.9 million to reimburse parents for costs associated with summer school
    • $20 million for student mental health services
    • $11.7 million for benchmark assessments in rea­ding and math
    • $87 million in federal Governor’s Emergency Education Relief grants for nonpublic schools

The two Senate bills will be sent to the House for consideration.
