Senate Passes COVID-19 Supplemental Funding

On Thursday, the Senate passed nearly $2 billion in supplemental funding to aid in the state’s response to the ongoing pandemic. Appropriations include:

- $110 million for vaccine distribution
- $150 million to increase pay for direct care workers
- $185 million for testing
- $283 million in emergency rental assistance

Additionally, the legislation appropriates funding to help schools’ respond to the pandemic, including:

- A minimum of $450 per pupil to help with learning loss associated with school closures
- $179 million to support summer school
- $5.9 million to reimburse parents for costs associated with summer school
- $20 million for student mental health services
- $11.7 million for benchmark assessments in reading and math
- $87 million in federal Governor’s Emergency Education Relief grants for nonpublic schools

The two Senate bills will be sent to the House for consideration.
