Senate Passes Budgets

On Thursday, the Senate passed all budget bills containing appropriations for the upcoming fiscal year beginning on October 1. Highlights of the budget bills include:

An increase to per pupil funding of $115 – $230
$500 million for at-risk students
$5 million career and technical education incentive
$1.3 billion deposit into the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System
$24.7 million increase in constitutional revenue sharing
$40.9 million for Going Pro skilled trades training for in-demand jobs
$10 million grant program for K-12 mental health services

Last week the House passed their version of the budgets for the upcoming fiscal year. Now, both the House and Senate will pass different versions of the bills sending the budgets to conference committees where members from both parties and chambers will work together to find a consensus.
