Senate Minority Leader-elect Makes Announcements

As the legislature looks toward the new term in January, announcements regarding staff, leadership, and other transitional items continue to roll out. In the first announcement, Senate Minority Leader-elect Aric Nesbitt (R-Lawton) announced the formation of the Policy Transition Committee for the Senate Republican caucus for the 2023-2024 legislative session. The committee will be comprised of the following members:

    • Senator Lana Theis (R-Brighton), chair
    • Senator Roger Victory (R-Hudsonville)
    • Senator Mark Huizenga (R-Walker)
    • Senator-elect Thomas Albert (R-Lowell)
    • Senator-elect John Damoose (R-Harbor Springs)
    • Senator-elect Jonathan Lindsey (R-Bronson)

Senator Nesbitt also announced the selection of key staff for his office and the Senate Republican caucus. The hires include:

    • Joe Wicks, chief of staff
    • Madelyn Omietanski, Republican general counsel and senior policy advisor
    • Jeff Wiggins, press secretary and senior advisor
    • Ryan Studley, legislative director
    • Matt Sweeney, central staff director
    • Casey VanderWeide, communications director
    • Darin Ackerman, policy director
