Legislation appropriating supplemental funding to aid in the state’s response to the pandemic, to help local units of government with local road repairs, and restoring school funding previously vetoed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, was reported by the Senate Appropriations Committee this week.
The first bill, introduced by Appropriations Committee Chair Jim Stamas (R-Midland), appropriates $4.4 billion in Federal and state funding to aid the state’s response to the ongoing pandemic. Funding within the bill includes:
The committee reported another bill introduced by Chairman Stamas, restoring $943 million in school funding. This includes $840 million in federal Emergency and Secondary School Emergency Relief funding, $10 million to reimburse parents for summer school expenses, and $87 million in federal Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund grants for nonpublic schools.
The two bills have been sent to the Senate floor for consideration.
