Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R-Clarklake) announced a series of committee membership changes this week. Most notably, Senator Rick Outman (R-Six Lakes) is now the chair of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Subcommittee, following the resignation of former Senator Pete MacGregor. The DHHS budget is one of the largest budgets in the state. Additionally, Senator Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) will serve as minority vice-chair, replacing Senator Curtis Hertel (D-East Lansing) who gave up his spot on the committee after his wife was named director of the department.
