Senate Appropriation Subcommittee Membership Changes Announced

Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R-Clarklake) announced a series of committee membership changes this week. Most notably, Senator Rick Outman (R-Six Lakes) is now the chair of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Subcommittee, following the resignation of former Senator Pete MacGregor. The DHHS budget is one of the largest budgets in the state. Additionally, Senator Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) will serve as minority vice-chair, replacing Senator Curtis Hertel (D-East Lansing) who gave up his spot on the committee after his wife was named director of the department. Other changes include:

DHHS Subcommittee:

    • Senator Kevin Daley (D-Lum) is replacing Senator Tom Barrett (R-Potterville)
    • Senator Winnie Brinks (D-East Grand Rapids) and Senator Adam Hollier (D-Detroit) have been added

General Government Subcommittee:

    • Senator Roger Victory (R-Hudsonville) is replacing Senator Jim Stamas (R-Midland) as chair
    • Senator Jon Bumstead (R-Newaygo) will now serve as majority vice-chair
    • Senator Michael MacDonald (R-Macomb) has been added

Joint Capital Outlay:

    • Senator Kim LaSata (R-Bainbridge Twp.) is replacing Senator Rick Outman (R-Six Lakes)

Natural Resources and Environmental Quality Subcommittee:

    • Senator John Bizon (R-Battle Creek) is replacing Senator Rick Outman (R-Six Lakes)

Labor and Economic Development/MEDC Subcommittee:

    • Senator Curtis Hertel (D-East Lansing) is replacing Senator Adam Hollier (D-Detroit) and will serve as minority vice chair

K-12 Subcommittee:

    • Senator Lana Theis (R-Brighton) and Senator Dayna Polehanki (D-Livonia) have been added
