Legislation that would reform Michigan’s retirement tax was sent to conference committee this week after the two chambers were at an impasse on the proposal. Introduced by Representative Angela Witwer (D-Delta Twp.), the bill as passed by the House phases-out the retirement tax, with full implementation in the 2026 tax year. This week, the Senate passed a different version of the bill, the House did not concur, sending it to conference committee. Committee members will meet to negotiate a bill that both chambers can agree to. The conferees are Senators Singh, Anthony, and Lauwers and Representatives Steckloff, Neeley, and VanWoerkom. Once they reach agreement, the bill will be sent to both chambers for a vote.
