Representative Urges Changes to SNAP

Apr 10, 2020

Representative Annette Glenn (R-Williams Twp.) sent a letter to Governor Gretchen Whitmer urging her to take action to make changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Currently, residents can’t use their benefits to purchase groceries online or through curbside pickup. Given the current risks associated with COVID-19, Representative Glenn has provided two recommended actions for the governor:

    • Apply to the Food and Nutrition Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to include Michigan in the FNS Online Purchasing Pilot Program.
    • Apply for a temporary SNAP waiver that would allow SNAP beneficiaries to pay for all home delivery services and curbside pick-up with their SNAP benefits as long as the governor’s “stay home” order is in effect.
