Primary Election Overview: U.S. Senate

Through the primary election on August 7, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

Commentary

Senator Debbie Stabenow will be running for a 4^th term in office, having first been elected to the United States Senate in 2000. As with prior elections, she is running unopposed in the Democratic primary race. During the next few months this race will be focused on who will win the Republican primary. As of last month, Mr. Pensler had the advantage of cash on hand over his opponent, but he is self-funding a lot of his campaign.

Democratic Candidates:

Senator Debbie Stabenow – United States Senator, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, former member of both the Michigan House and Senate

Republican Candidates:

John James – Veteran, president of James Group International, West Point graduate
Sandy Pensler – Attorney, business owner, former educator and financial advisor, clerked at the U.S. 5^th Circuit Court of Appeals
