Through the primary election on August 7, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 9^th House District is located in Wayne County and includes portions of Dearborn and the City of Detroit. The district has an 82% Democratic base.

Commentary

Representative Sylvia Santana (D) won’t be seeking a second term in this seat in order to run for the Michigan Senate. Given the strong Democratic base, the winner of the primary race is all but assured to represent this district come January.

Gary Pollard
Donald Stuckey, II – Special education paraprofessional at Dearborn High School, volunteer mediator at the Wayne Dispute Resolution Center, served in AmeriCorps NCCC and for City Year Detroit. He received the Silver Congressional Award from former Congressman John Conyers and a recipient of the Spirit of Detroit Award.
Karen Whitsett – Community organizer
