Through the primary election on August 2, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.
District Overview
The 92nd House District is located in Muskegon County and includes; Fruitland Township, Laketon Township, the City of Muskegon, Muskegon Township, the City of Muskegon Heights, the City of North Muskegon, and Whitehall Township. The district has a very strong 70% Democratic base and the winner of their primary is all but assured victory this November.
Commentary
This seat is open due to State Representative Marcia Hovey-Wright (D-Muskegon) serving her third, and final term in office. The district is a heavily industrial and union area of the state. Democratic candidate Terry Sabo has proven he is a strong candidate by beating a long-term incumbent four years ago to win his spot on the board of commissioners in Muskegon County. Additionally, he has gained endorsements by dozens of current and former local officials, including the prosecutor, several Muskegon County Commissioners, two former state representatives from the district, and the former mayor of Muskegon Heights. However, Democratic candidate Sean Mullally has received numerous endorsements as well, including the current Representative Hovey-Wright.
