Primary Election Overview: 8th Senate District

Through the primary election on August 7, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 8th Senate District is located in Macomb County. The district includes Bruce Township, Chesterfield Township, Harrison Township, Lenox Township, Mt Clemens, Ray Township, St Clair Shore, Shelby Township, Utica, Village of Grosse Pointe Shores, and Washington Township. The district has a 59% Republican base.

Commentary

Republican Senator Jack Brandenburg can’t run for another term due to term limits, leaving this seat open. In the Republican primary is both a former and a current State Representative. Current legislator Representative Peter Lucido entered the race earlier than his opponent, giving him a slight edge.

Democratic Candidates:

  • Patrick Biange – Self-employed independent contractor
  • Raymond Fillipek – Casino dealer
  • Paul Francis – Small business owner

Republican Candidates:

  • Ken Goike – Former State Representative, small business owner
  • Peter Lucido – State Representative, attorney
