General Election Overview: 7th Senate District

Through the general election on November 6, on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 7^th Senate District is located in Wayne County. The district includes Canton Township, Livonia, Northville, Northville Township, Plymouth, Plymouth Township and Wayne.

Commentary

Due to term limits, current two-term Republican Senator Patrick Colbeck is prohibited from seeking re-election. The district has a 51% Republican base and races in this seat have been very close in the past few election cycles. However, only the Republican candidate has experience running for public office and that will give her a significant boost in this race.

Democratic Candidate:

Dayna Polehanki – English teacher, owner of Detroit Casting Company, former manager of features casting at Paramount Pictures.

Republican Candidate:

Laura Cox – State Representative, House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman, former U.S. Customs Special Agent, former Wayne County Commissioner.

Libertarian Candidate:

Joseph LeBlanc – Owns Michigan Software Services, Inc.
