District Overview

The 78th House District includes portions of Berrien and Cass Counties.

Commentary

Representative Dave Pagel (R) can’t run for this seat again due to term limits, leaving this seat open. The district has a 61% Republican base, making the Republican primary race the key race for this seat.

Democratic Candidate:

  • Dean Hill – Former teacher

Republican Candidates:

  • Steve Bury
  • Dana Daniels – President of the Niles School Board, works in information technology
  • Daniel Hinkle – U.S. Navy Veteran, reserve police officer
  • David Mann – Former Niles City Council member
  • Brad Paquette – Teacher, Vice-chair of the Niles Planning Commission
  • Kelly Priede – Small business owner
