District Overview

The 71^st House District is located in Eaton County. The district has a 52% Republican base.

Commentary

Representative Tom Barrett (R) is foregoing a third term in this seat to run for the Michigan Senate. Despite the slight edge in the base that Republicans have, this seat will be one of the most competitive this November.

Democratic Candidates:

Beth Bowen – Small business owner, former self-employed internal communications consultant
Dominic Michael Natoli – Attending Lansing Community College, former campaign volunteer for Bernie Sanders
Angela Witwer – Business owner, serves on the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education

Republican Candidates:

Christine Barnes – Eaton County Commissioner, accountant, small business owner
Chuck Cascarilla – Golf course owner
Chris Stewart – CEO of C.W. Leadership, former strength coach at both Olivet College and Michigan State University
Clarisa Trevino – Small business owner, former bank relationship manager
