Primary Election Overview: 6th House District

Through the primary election on August 4 on the MLC Blog we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 6^th House District is located in Wayne County and includes a portion of the City of Detroit, Ecorse, and River Rogue.

Commentary

Representative Tyrone Carter is running for a second term in office. The district has a 92% Democratic race and the winner of the primary race in the Democratic primary is assured to win in November, especially since no Republicans have filed to run in the seat. Representative Carter serves on the House Education Committee, the House Energy Committee, and the House Military, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security Committee.

In 2016 President Trump received only 7.05% of the vote and in 2018 Governor Whitmer received 92.40% of the vote.

Representative Tyrone Carter – State Representative, former Executive Lieutenant in the Wayne County Sherriff’s Office, and former Assistant Director of Campus Police at Wayne County Community College District.
Ivy Nichole Neal – Founder of a mentoring program for girls 12 to 16, radio personality.
David Palmer – Real estate broker.
