Through the primary election on August 2 on the MLC Blog we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 54^th House District is located in southeast Michigan and includes portions of Oakland County.

Commentary

In this district, Republicans have a slight edge with a 53% base. Given the base, both the Democratic and Republican primary elections will be important, as well as the general election this November.

Democratic Candidates:

- Stephanie Fakih – Bloomfield Township Trustee, criminal defense attorney, serves on the Bloomfield Township Zoning Board of Appeals and the Bloomfield Youth Assistance Board.
- Gary Gerson – Geologist, played college football, played pro ball in Europe.
- Shadia Martini – Former university professor, business owner.

Republican Candidates:

- Sandy Kiesel – Executive director for the Election Integrity Fund and Force
- Donni Steele – Orion Township Treasurer, former Orion Township Board of Trustee member, small business owner, former real estate broker.
