Jul 05, 2016

Through the primary election on August 2, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 28th House District is located in Macomb County and includes the City of Center Line and a portion of Warren.  This is a strong Democratic district at 56%, the winner of the Democratic primary should have no problem in November.

Commentary

Former Representative Derek Miller resigned this seat earlier this year to become Macomb County Treasurer.  Governor Rick Snyder has called a special election to fill the remainder of the current term ending January 1, 2017.  The same candidates are also running for election to a full term beginning in January.  Democratic candidate Patrick Green has been a member of the Warren City Council since 2007, providing name recognition for the candidate.  Additionally, his brother is the Warren police commissioner.  At this time, Mr. Green is seen as the favorite to win the primary race.  Democratic candidate Paul Kardasz announced at the end of April that he is suspending his campaign.
