Primary Election Overview: 18th House District

Through the primary election on August 2 on the MLC Blog we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 18^th Michigan House District is located in Oakland County in southeast Michigan. It includes Lathrup Village, and portions of Southfield, Farmington Hills, and Farmington.

Commentary

The district has a solid 79% Democratic base, making the Democratic primary key. Two candidates are running in that race. Jason Hoskins has campaign experience and has received a number of endorsements from currently elected officials. His opponent, Caprice Jackson, has also received a number of endorsements and is experienced working for elected officials at the city, state, and federal levels.

Democratic Candidates:

- Jason Hoskins – Attorney, Southfield City Council member, adjunct professor, former legislative staffer.
- Caprice Jackson – Congressional and legislative staffer, policy analyst for the Detroit City Council.

- Wendy Webster Jackson
