Through the primary election on August 7, on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 16^th House District is located in Wayne County and includes the City of Wayne and a portion of Westland.

Commentary

Representative Robert Kosowski (D) is term limited from running again for this seat, leaving it open. The district has a 62% Democratic base. Two of the primary candidates will have name recognition due to holding local office; Kevin Coleman and Bill Johnson.

Democratic Candidates:

Kevin Coleman – Former Westland City Council member
Bill Johnson – Westland City Council member, member of the Local 900 UAW
Jacob Johnson
Mike McDermott – Small business recruiter
