Primary Election Overview: 14th House District

Through the primary election on August 2, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 14^th House District is located in Wayne County and contains Lincoln Park, Melvindale, Riverview, and Wyandotte. The heavily unionized Downriver district has a 64% Democratic base.

Commentary

Current State Representative Paul Clemente is serving his third and final term in office. His wife, Cara, is one of the four Democratic candidates vying for the seat. The Clemente name has strong recognition, due to the current Representative and his cousin, Ed Clemente, who held the seat from 2005 – 2010. Cara will certainly have the upper-hand thanks to name recognition and strong family connections in the community. However, Jeff Chicoine will be seen as the most likely challenger thanks to prior work experience for Congresswoman and Debbie Dingell and her predecessor.

Jeff Chicoine – Field representative for Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, and former Congressman, John Dingell.
Cara Clemente – School Teacher
John Anthony Maranian – Inspector, asbestos remover.

Republican Candidates:

Darrell Stasik – US Army Corps of Engineers Veteran.
