Through the primary election on August 2 on the MLC Blog we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.
District Overview
The 13th Congressional District is located in southeast Michigan and includes a portion of Wayne County, including part of the City of Detroit. The district has a strong 77.7% Democratic base; thus, the winner of the Democratic primary is all but assured to win this November.
Commentary
This district is focused on the Democratic primary race, which in typical southeast Michigan fashion is full. It includes numerous, qualified candidates, including state and local elected officials, multiple attorneys, and more than one candidate who worked in the White House. Whoever wins this tough primary race will almost certainly win the general election, also.
