Through the general election on November 6, on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.
District Overview
The 10th Senate District is located in Macomb County and includes Macomb Township, Sterling Heights, and a portion of Clinton Township.
Commentary
Senator Tory Rocca (R) is serving his final term in this seat due to term limits. While the district has a 55% Republican base, insiders believe this seat has a strong possibility of changing party control this November.
Current State Representative Henry Yanez is a known commodity and worked extremely hard to win re-election in his current house seat the past 2-election cycles. Republican Michael MacDonald is a relative unknown, but republicans are very high on his work ethic.
In Macomb County, where elections can often be chaotic, this will be a key race to watch and one Democrats hope they can flip. An interesting data point to watch will be how Trump voters respond this election year. President Trump won Macomb Township by a significant margin but narrowly lost Sterling heights. The question remains will those voters that came out heavily for Trump in Macomb Twp. 2-years ago come out and vote for republicans once again.
