On Thursday, the Board of State Canvassers unanimously voted to approve the form of a petition to recall State Representative Larry Inman (R-Williamsburg). Supporters will now have sixty days to obtain approximately 12,200 signatures of registered voters within his district. Representative Inman does have an option to appeal the approval, but it’s not known at this time if he will do so. If the required number of signatures are collected, and they are validated by the Secretary of State, the recall would go before the voters in his district.
In May, Representative Inman was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly offering to trade a vote for a campaign donation. The vote in question was on repealing Michigan’s prevailing wage law and the discussion occurred via text message. The indictment includes charges of attempted extortion, bribery, and lying to the FBI. Representative Inman is facing up to thirty-five years in prison.
Representative Inman is serving his third term representing the 104th District, which is located in the northern part of the Lower Peninsula and includes Traverse City. He served on the Grand Traverse County Commission for 22 years and is a retired bank vice president.
