Old and Interesting Michigan Laws You’ve Probably Never Heard Of

Being frequent visitors and close neighbors to the Michigan statehouse, we are the first to know when bills become new laws. You can count on us to let you know when new legislation is going to affect you and your family.

But today we're taking a look back at some of the laws that have been on the books for decades that we find, well, interesting!

Did you know that the last Sunday in June every year is declared "log cabin day"?

And so many more, check these out:

Until it was repealed in 2002, there was a law making it illegal to swear before women and children.
These laws are specific to Detroit:
(1) putt-putt courses can't be open past 1 a.m.
(2) you can't let your pig run free without a ring in it's nose
(3) it's illegal to willfully destroy your old radio
In Grand Haven, abandoning a hoop skirt on the street or sidewalk will result in a $5 fine.
Don't serenade your girlfriend in Kalamazoo, it's against the law.
In Rochester, the head of police is in charge of inspecting all bathing suits. We hope that one's not being enforced too stringently.

And possibly our favorite is an antique law from Wayland, which allows anyone to keep their cow on Main Street downtown for 3 cents a day.
