According to numbers released this week by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November 2017 was 4.6%, an increase of one-tenth of a percentage point. Total employment for the month advanced by 11,000, while the number of unemployed increased by 6,000. While the month-to-month rate increased, last month’s rate was half of a percentage point below the November 2016 rate of 5.1%.
In the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate last month was 4.3%, an increase of four-tenths of a percentage point. Despite the increase, this marks the fifth consecutive month the region’s jobless rate was below the state’s unemployment rate.
