November Unemployment Rate Increases

According to numbers released this week by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, the state’s seasonally adjusted rate for November 2016 increased by two-tenths of a percentage point. November’s rate of 4.9% was two-tenths of a percentage point below the rate from the prior year. Last month, the workforce increased by 28,000, total employment rose by 16,000, and the number of unemployed advanced by 12,000.

In the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market, the November 2016 unemployment rate was 5.9%, an increase of four-tenths of a percentage point from the prior month. While the month-to-month rate increased, the rate was three-tenths of a percentage point from the prior year.
