New Leader Selected for MI Economic Development Corp.

Jul 14, 2017

On Tuesday it was announced the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Executive Committee approved the hiring of Jeff Mason as the new CEO.  Several weeks ago, Governor Rick Snyder recommend Mr. Mason to oversee the MEDC and by unanimous approval the executive committee voted to approve.  Most recently, he spent eight-years at the University Research Corridor.  Prior to that, he worked at the MEDC from 1999-2009.  He fills the vacancy created when the former CEO, Steve Arwood, stepped down on June 30.

The MEDC serves as the state’s marketing and business attraction arm, performing due diligence on the administration of grants and other incentives approved by the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) board with the explicit goal of encouraging businesses to locate and expand in Michigan.

Additionally, on Tuesday Governor Snyder appointed Mr. Mason as president of the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) and chairman of the MSF board of directors.  His appointment to the MSF is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

The MSF works to support economic development and job creation in Michigan.
